5 ways to make the most out of your video content

We always encourage making the most of your video footage and being strategic about repurposing content to maximize your investment. Here are five ways to get more use out of your video content. Not only can you use these tips for videos but also for creating additional marketing content as well!

1. Create micro-content
When you look at your final video, think about how you can cut it up and create other pieces of content for social media, or even reorganize it to tell a different story. Oftentimes, when we go onsite, we interview people for about half an hour to produce a two to three-minute video. Clients own all of that footage so that leaves plenty of opportunities to create more out of it. Consider asking your video partner to make additional 15 to 30-second cuts for clips that you can share. These can be as simple as just pulling sound bites.

For example, say you're creating an explainer video for your website, and you interviewed three different people, why not develop smaller clips of each one? You can share these on your social media channels and even use them as an on-ramp to lead people to your website to watch the full version.

2. Ask for B-roll clips

If you're working with a video production professional, ask them to cut some of those B-roll clips. Let's say you're doing a hero's journey testimonial and part of it is going behind the scenes and showing how your product is manufactured. You may have B-roll of the factory, and of your team making, packaging and shipping products. You may also have staged B-roll of your customer getting the product at their house, opening it up and using it. All those B-roll clips tell a story.

You can save some of these clips to create a stock library that you can pull from and repurpose. For example, you can open a video file in Canva and add text to promote a new product or create a teaser video for the holidays to show your team is working hard to meet demand. You may even be able to repurpose B-roll in your next professionally-produced video so you don’t have to shoot (and spend) as much.

3. Create blogs

By ripping the transcription from interview audio, you can turn the discussion from your executives and subject matter experts into even more content, like blogs. While the transcripts will need some editing, you can maximize your team’s time by repurposing their thoughts into another form of media.

4. Pull social media stills

The hardest part about posting on social media is having the content. Maximize your video by pulling still photos that you can use elsewhere, like on social media, your website or in blogs. Just note that while this may be a great way to grab online content it will not be high enough for print materials or to blow up on the wall of your tradeshow booth.  If that’s what you’re looking for, let your video production team know upfront. If they offer commercial photography they can use a professional photo camera at the shoot to capture those images for you.

5. Pull quotes

While you can pull video quotes in clips, also consider grabbing text quotes from your transcription to include in a social media post along with a graphic you create. Customer testimonials are also super valuable and can be hard to obtain. If you’ve captured a review on camera, repurpose it in text in other marketing materials.

We hope this helps inspire some ideas for your next video project. By changing your mindset to think about your overall marketing needs before a video, you can maximize your content and ROI.
